My EDC bag isn't a bug-out bag

A bug-out bag is for extended displacement. An EDC bag or get-home bag is for making it back to your house from wherever you are when something goes wrong. They're different problems and mixing them up gives you a bag that's too heavy for daily carry and not substantial enough for sustained use.

Exactly, EDC is your daily lifeline, bug-out is a weekend warrior. Don’t confuse the two unless you enjoy lugging bricks.

Your EDC should be light and functional for everyday scenarios, not trying to double as a full-scale bug-out kit.

The only time I have a bag on me is when I'm in the great outdoors. Or, very randomly, having to go somewhere for work.

 Yeah, my everyday carry bag is pretty simple, just water, some snacks, a light jacket, and a tourniquet. My bug out bag’s a whole different beast...it sits in the closet and weighs way more. They’re different tools for different jobs.
