I've been wondering about binary triggers in South Dakota. I recently moved here and I've heard mixed opinions. Some folks say they’re fine, while others act like it’s a big no-no. I guess I’m just trying to figure out the rules before I dive in and spend any cash. If anyone has any solid info or even a personal experience with it, I’d really appreciate the insight. What’s the deal? Are they considered legal or do I need to steer clear? Thanks in advance!

From what I have seen, binary triggers are generally legal in South Dakota at the state level, but it always comes down to federal compliance and how your local sheriff or FFL interprets it. Have you asked around at a shop yet?

Welcome to South Dakota! Yeah, I heard the exact same rumors when I was looking into those things a while back. Here's the straight scoop: binary triggers are 100% legal here in SD. You’re good to go.I actually got one, the Franklin Armory BFSIII, on a weekend gun and it is an absolute blast. The reason you’re hearing conflicting talk is probably just people mixing up our laws with other states, or worrying about the feds changing their mind. But right now, South Dakota has no state law that bans them, so they are not classified as a machine gun here.If you’re gonna drop the cash, just make sure your local range doesn't have some weird rule about rapid fire, cause these things can get cooking pretty quick. Otherwise, enjoy it, man! We got good freedoms out here
